Set goals the right way

There is a right and a wrong way to set goals. If you don’t set your goals right, you will miss the right goals, which will lead you astray. But if you set them correctly, the sky is the limit. Use the SMART goal-setting method to help you get things done.

And when setting those goals, make sure you have deep and powerful meanings for wanting to achieve them.
SMART goal-setting We’ll talk about 5 key elements that make a good goal a great one:

  • (S) — Specific:
The first step in setting a SMART goal is to be specific about it. You must state exactly what the objective is. It must not remain abstract and must be written. What exactly do you want to get? You can’t just imagine what this idea is. You need to be able to follow it and give it a metric. Specific goals are much more likely to be achieved. And if they’re written, you’re more likely to achieve those goals. It’s like taking them from the abstract to the real world. Once you write them, they are real. Define them with great precision and detail.
  • (M) — Meaningful:
Most people think the letter “M” in SMART stands for measurable. Not true. The “M” stands for sensible. If a goal doesn’t make sense, it can’t be achieved. The actionable metric is defined in the first step where you specify the goal, but you must also have a strong and powerful reason for achieving it. The reasons come first. The answers come second. If you’ve ever wanted something strong enough in your life, you know what it feels like to push boundaries by setting meaningful goals.

I’m not talking about superficial goals. Superficial goals don’t work. You will simply fail if you set superficial goals. Behind the details of your goal, you must have a strong enough meaning. Keep asking yourself why you want something, then try to figure out why you want the answer until the question equals the answer. Some examples of strong-enough reasons are things like family, freedom, love, homeland, and so on.
  • (A) — Achievable:
Set goals that you can achieve. I’m all for aiming high, but you need to build momentum from small wins. Don’t set a short-term. It is not feasible. Of course, you can set your 5-year goal on that. No problem. Just make sure your goals are achievable. This doesn’t mean you can’t set extravagant goals that are further away. You should certainly do this. When you do, you are constantly looking for ways to achieve those goals, as long as you create milestones along the way. Just make sure your short-term goals are achievable.

Configure your sites to create more goals. Focus on a very achievable 12-month goal so that you can build momentum. Then, create your goals for 2, 3, 5, and 10 years. This pattern for your life will help give you direction so that you know where you are going. It provides clarity of purpose and calculated actions to achieve end results. It’s a powerful tool that resides in both your conscious and subconscious mind once you know what you’re looking for in the long run.
  • (R) — Relevant:
Your SMART goals should be relevant to your life. Goals should also align with your values and beliefs. The thing that often stumbles most people is that they choose goals that conflict with their beliefs. Sometimes those goals even contradict their core values. When that happens, you will find yourself giving up. Why? Because the goal literally went against the grain. You can’t set goals that don’t resonate with the inner workings of your mind. Once the going gets tough, you’re more likely to quit if you choose to.
  • (T) — Time-Based:
SMART goals are time-based. You have a specific date by which these goals must be achieved. If you don’t select this date, you are violating one of the main purposes of goal setting. If you choose a date on a calendar instead of saying “next year”, “next summer” or “in a few years”, you are more likely to stick to it. Another thing about time-based goals is that you can easily create milestones on your way to that goal.

You can break it down into monthly, weekly, and even daily goals. It’s much easier to focus on what you need to do today to achieve a goal than on the enormity of something a year from now. Take the time to choose a specific date on the calendar for your goals. Then post that goal on paper on your wall or in your office with the date at the top in bold right in front of you. This way you always have it in mind and can refer to it often. You can also set it as a wallpaper screen for your phone and computer.

Automate your important habits

Our habits will rule your life, and there is no doubt about that. The problem is that most people let bad habits limit them and keep them from living a great life, rather than using habits to build them up and serve them better. Almost everything we do every day is a habit. From when you open your eyes in the morning, how you brush your teeth, how you eat breakfast, and how you go back to sleep at night, these activities have become a habit.

If you want to do something excellent, you must learn to manage and build productive habits. This is why habits are extremely important in determining your life. The results you get in your life right now are mainly because of your habits.

Manage Your Energy

If you want to manage your life, you have to learn to manage your energy. Your life in this world is your time. How you spend your time is how you spend your life.
So it’s essential to learn how to manage your time. And to manage your time, you have to manage your energy. Without energy, your time will never be well spent. Imagine that you are going through a tired, exhausted, and sleepy day.

Do you think you can fully enjoy time/life? No way. And when it comes to being productive and getting more done, the first thing most people think of is sleeping less and spending more time at work. It won’t work in the long run because you’re trading your energy for a time. At some point, your energy will run out. You suffer from burnout or get sick from trying to use too much energy.

Follow the 80-20 rule.

Another great time management tip is to use the 80-20 Rule, also known as the Pareto Principle. This rule states that 80% of the efforts come from 20 percent of the results. In sales, it also means that 80 percent of the sales come from 20 percent of the customers. The trick? Identify the 20 percent of the efforts that are producing 80 percent of the results and scale that out. You can do this with meticulous tracking and analysis.

Take frequent breaks when working.

Some studies suggest that you should work for 52 minutes and break for 17. You might not have the luxury to do that. But you should take frequent breaks. If you’re an entrepreneur working for yourself, this is crucial. It’s easy to run on fumes and not even know it. Keep your mental, emotional and physical states at peak levels by breaking frequently.

Meditate or exercise every morning

You might not think that this will help to better manage your time, but meditating and exercising every single morning gives you balance. Cut the toxins out of your life and get serious by doing this and watch as your energy, stamina and mental focus take a drastic shift.

Turn off social media app alerts

Incessant social media app alerts aren’t helping you with your time. It’s definitely hurting you. Turn them off. You don’t need alerts every moment or to know everything happening with your friends. It’s not important. What’s most important is to have some peace of mind and be better able to focus on the task at hand.

Find purpose

What do you want from your life? What’s your bottom line? The answer is not to buy a nice car or a fancy house. Your true purpose is something deeper, and the life skills you develop should reflect that. What goal, when you think about it, brings you a sense of joy, pleasure, and freedom? What does it mean to you to unlock an extraordinary life? That’s what you work for.

It may be about taking care of your family or being the best in your field, but it’s not about material things. With a clear vision, you can use life management services as a massive blueprint to direct your actions and make real progress toward your goals. As Tony Robbins says, “One of the reasons so few of us realize what we really want is that we never focus; we never concentrate our power.

Most people make their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular. Decide to become a master of your life. Take control of your time and make your actions matter.

Work smarter not harder

There are some things that you might not be able to do, through skills or time constraints. Don’t worry about paying for others to do some tasks, it’s about doing the things you are good at and planning for others to do the things you can’t!

Review your life

Reviewing your life is one of the most important keys to living the successful life that you desire. I believe that nobody wants to go through this year exactly the same as their last. People want to improve and do better each year, nobody wants to stay the same and stagnant. To review your life, you need to ask yourself these 3 questions:

  • What went wrong?
  • What went right?
  • What can you do to improve your situation or create better results?

Life consists of many choices, decisions, and actions that we do each and every single day. And the only way to find out if we are going to live the kind of life we desire or if we are going to achieve our goals is to review what we have done in the past.
Steve Jobs was famous for asking himself a question each morning when he looked into the mirror. This is the question he asked himself every single day:

“If today were the last day of your life, would you want to be doing what you’re doing?”
